Step by step guide
If you are familiar with Axie Infinity v2 (Classic), there are many similarities in v3 (Origins). Axie Origins is also a 3v3 card battling game.
You can use themed decks such as Poison, AOE, or stall just like in v2.
Another similarity is how you position your Axies: Tank in the front, Carry in the back and Utility in the middle.
Just like in v2, deck building and team synergy are really important to succeeding in ranked battles. You will need to keep track of your opponents cards, as well as your own, to know what has happened and what to expect next.
In v2, Axies had 4 parts to them. In Origins this is expanded into 6 parts leading to a much more competitive game space.
Another difference is that Origins utilises turn-based gameplay as opposed to simultaneous actions. Each player has energy fragments to spend on playing cards, once they have spent all of the energy they can, the opponent then has a chance to play their cards.
Another aspect which deepens the gameplay in Origins is the introduction of Runes and Charms. Runes and Charms are bonuses that can be applied to Axie and cards in order to increase damage, alter effects, buff allies etc.
Now that you know the similarities and differences with Axie Classic, let's go over some of the most important UI elements. Firstly there's the Battle Log. This is a log of actions by both you and your opponent. Which cards have been played and in which order.
Next is your Energy Bar. Energy is used when playing cards. The amount of energy consumed is indicated in the top left hand corner of each card. Some cards do not consume energy at all.
Finally are the Draw & Discard Piles. The discard pile shows you how many, and which cards you have already played. The Draw Pile shows you cards that you can potentially pull on your next turn. If there are not enough cards in your Draw Pile to fill your hand, your Discard Pile is shuffled into the draw pile to create a new Draw Pile.
