Check Battle Rank
Step by step guide
The first step to building a winning team is to discover which play style you like the most. You can build a team around a rune or charm that you like, or build around a specific Axie with a theme such as poison or area-of-effect.
While you’re playing, take note of cards or runes which do well for you – and those that do well for your opponents! These cards, runes and charms are a good starting point to build your team around. For example Green Thorns and Small Frill are great core cards for a poison team composition.
You can browse the current season’s leader board at https://axies.io/leaderboard
Looking at the team composition of the top players can help you identify which themes are winning consistently and which specific cards are performing well.
Once you’ve identified your play style and the core cards to fit that play style head over to https://app.axieinfinity.com/marketplace/axies/ to browse the marketplace. You can use the filters to find Axies with those specific cards.
If the Axies are out of your budget when you add all of your preferred cards, you can start removing them one by one to browse for alternatives at a lower price point. You may not be able to get best-in-slot cards for all 6 parts, but there are often cheaper alternatives available.
https://axie.tech/ is another great resource to browse Runes and Charms with a specific theme in mind. Let’s look at a couple of themed comps.
A couple of core cards for a poison themed composition are Small Frill and Green Thornes. These are both healing cards that will also inflict a poison debuff to enemies.
Another great card for a budget poison comp is Gila. It is an AOE damage card that pairs great with poison.
Searching the Rune and Charm Explorers for “Poison” on axie.tech you can find runes that will buff your Axies. Two great runes you can use on a poison-based Axie are Venom Master and Poison Touch.
It’s important to note that all items that go well with poison comps don’t necessarily contain the word poison in their description. For example, this rune, Malediction, will make your Axie tankier while also granting them extra damage on targets with the poison debuff.
As for charms, there is Gloves of Infection and Viper’s Venom. These will both make your poison cards even stronger.
Some great AOE, or area of effect, core cards are Ear Wing and Tri Feather. These are both 1 energy damage cards which hit multiple targets at once. Tri Feather has the added buff of Feather which increases the damage of allied Axies.
Another AOE card which is a great killing move is Wing Horn. Under the right conditions this will add two Feather Dagger cards to your hand which are 0 energy damage cards.
Great, you’ve assembled a winning team – let’s see if you can reach Hare IV in the ranked Arena. You’ll need to rack up about 13 wins to reach this rank. Good luck!
